There have been reports of some buildings and homes destroyed near yesterday's magnitude 7.0 in northern Papua New Guinea. The region is so remote to the point where it might take several days to figure out the extent of the damage. The earthquake was big enough to be felt in surrounding regions. Two earthquakes of magnitude 6 and up have occurred in the world over the past 24 hours. A magnitude 6.5 struck near the Kamchatka Peninsula and later a magnitude 6.1 struck near the coast of northnern Sumatra, Indonesia.
