Update: 12/29/21

At first, there was not very much going on, but there has been a major earthquake in the world today. A magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck the Kepulauan Barat Daya region in Indonesia, some 113 km northeast of Lospalos, Municipio de Lautem, Timor-Leste. It struck at 3:25 a.m. local time at an immediate and considerable depth of 200 km according to the EMSC. That has since been downgraded to a depth of 167 km by the USGS. No tsunami warning was issued for the surrounding islands. This earthquake was felt 600 km away in Darwin, Australia. Around 1,700 of its residents reported feeling tremors early on Thursday, according to Geoscience. The quake was not expected to cause any significant damage due to its focal depth and proximity to higher populations. There may still be more significant activity going on in the world anytime now this week. There has been some more activity in/near Japan and some more seismic activity has occurred across parts of the United States including the Eastern side.

New Watch: 12/28/21-1/4/22

I know there was already a lot of significant activity in the world over the past week, but there now may be something going on again somewhere in the world. There may be more mag. 6+ going on somewhere any time or day now within the week ahead so far. At the same time, it may not become active, but I will put this out just in case something does happen. Regions that may be active may include: Greece(Eastern Mediterranean Sea region), Myanmar(Burma), Pakistan, Andaman Islands region, Indonesia(Banda Sea region), Philippines, New Zealand, Tonga, Vanuatu, Ecuador or Peru.. Again, it may or may not act up anywhere right now. I could end up deleting this post within the next few days, but as of right now, there may be more significant activity going on somewhere at any time. There could also be more going on across parts of the U.S. including California, the Pacific NW, and/or possibly the Central and/or Eastern U.S. There has been more activity taking place across the country over the past day or two.

Update: 12/21/21

A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck just off the coast of Northern California yesterday causing moderate to strong shaking around the region. However, it likely caused little damage and it was a sparsely populated area. There may be more moderate earthquake activity taking place in parts of the world. There has also been higher levels of seismic activity in Alaska lately. At this point, there may not be anymore large earthquake activity going on in the world for now. There is still a chance for more significant activity somewhere, but there has already been a lot of that over the past week.

Update: 12/19/21

Earlier today, a magnitude 6.3 struck the Fiji region. Shortly after, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck the country of Laos. Just now, a magnitude 6.0 struck the South Sandwich Islands which was an aftershock. There has still been a lot of activity in the world. It may not be over yet. There is activity also taking place throughout Alaska and there could be more going on again in the Central United States. A small magnitude 2.4 struck Illinois this morning. There still may be more significant activity taking place in the world.

Update: 12/18/21

There is a chance more significant earthquake activity could be going on somewhere in the world anytime now or within the next few days. At the same time, there may not be a thing happening for now. I made an outlook yesterday, but deleted it. I figured that I normally post those towards the latter part of the month instead of the middle of the month. I also realized it may not be done yet out there. There is still a high potential for a strong earthquake somewhere, but at the same time, there may not be anymore serious activity for now as there had already been a major earthquake most recently.

Update: 12/14/21

Hours ago, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck off Flores Island, Indonesia. A tsunami warning was issued, but then lifted. According to the USGS, the earthquake had a focal depth of 11.5 miles(18.5 km). No major damage or casualties have been reported so far. The shaking was felt in 14 districts and cities across the provinces of East Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi. There has been not much going on elsewhere in the world. Though there is still a heightened potential for more significant earthquake activity somewhere, that may also be it for now at the same time.

EQ Watch: 12/12-19/21

Yesterday morning, I was thinking about making a new post, but then it went quiet again and decided not to yet. However, I later realized it was probably about to become active again. A few hours ago, a magnitude 6.5 struck west of Macquarie Island. Fortunately, it was in a remote part of the world underneath the ocean. There could be more significant activity going on elsewhere this week, potentially in areas that are not so remote. So far, there is a very high potential for magnitude 6+ in the world any time or any day now. Regions to watch would include: Pakistan, Iran, the Hindu Kush region, Myanmar, China(Sichuan, Yunnan), Indonesia(Banda Sea region), East Timor, Japan(Hokkaido), Kuril Islands, Aleutian Islands, Chile.. Meanwhile, more activity has occurred across parts of the U.S. More activity has flared up in Western Texas with a mag. 4.1 and there has also been activity taking place in Kansas. There has also been signs of more activity in the New Madrid Seismic Zone over the past week so far. Once again, there is a heightened potential for more strong earthquake activity in the world this week so far.

Update: 12/3/21

There have been a couple of magnitude 6-pointers in the world overnight - a magnitude 6.2 in the Easter Island region and a magnitude 6.0 in the South Sandwich Islands. There has also been some more moderate earthquakes over the past 12 hours including a magnitude 5.5 south of Tonga. There still could be more significant activity going on out there, but that also could be it for now. There could be some more activity going on in or around Alaska.

Update: 11/30/21

There are still high levels of seismic activity throughout parts of the world. A magnitude 6.0 struck the Bismarck Sea by New Ireland and New Britain in the Papua New Guinea region earlier. The quake had a shallow depth of 10 km(6.2 miles). The quake was likely felt by many living near the epicenter but it should not have caused significant damage other than objects being knock off shelves or windows breaking. There may still be more significant earthquake activity taking place out there. A magnitude 5.1 just now occurred in Xizang, China. It was probably an aftershock from a major earthquake in that region 6 months ago.

Update: 11/29/21

There continues to be a lot going on in the world. A magnitude 6.3 struck Japan's Izu Islands earlier and there are still high levels of activity in the world. Other places that may be active include: the Philippines(Mindanao), Indonesia(Sumatra, Java, or Banda Sea region), the Hindu Kush Mountains region, Iran or Eastern Turkey, Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, Central America or Colombia.. There may also be some more seismic activity occurring across parts of the U.S. including Northern CA, the Sierras, Western Texas, and/or parts of the Central and/or Eastern U.S.

Update: 11/28/21

A magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck Peru on Sunday, collapsing a 16th-century Catholic church tower although no deaths or serious injuries were immediately reported. It was 5:52 local time when the earthquake struck the sparsely populated region. The quake had a focal depth of 112.5 kilometers(70 miles). The epicenter was 25 miles northwest of Barranca, a coastal city of 63,000 people about 100 miles north of Lima. Photos from the scene showed the rubble of the collapsed 45-foot historic church tower. Social media also showed photos of damage elsewhere in the region. The earthquake was felt across the country's northeastern border in Colombia. The mayor of Jalca Grande, Walter Culqui told RPP Noticias that, of the 3,000 families in the city, "60 or 70%" had some damage to their homes. There still may be a lot going on in the world. I will continue to keep the world posted.

New EQ Watch: 11/27-12/4/21

More strong earthquake activity may be on the rise again in parts of the world so far. There are moderate levels of seismic activity right now and it is showing signs of becoming more active again. There could even be a magnitude 7+ somewhere any time or day now within the week ahead. Regions to watch would include: Indonesia(Nias region, Sumatra, Sulawesi, or Halmahera), Papua New Guinea, Santa Cruz Islands region, Hindu Kush Mountains region, Kuril Islands, Kamchatka Peninsula, Central America, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina.. There may be more activity heating up in Alaska as well as the Gulf of Alaska and possibly the Pacific NW Coast. There could potentially be something more significant going on in the Gulf of Alaska, Haida Gwaii region, or Pacific NW Coast. At the same time, there may not be anything significant going on there. There could also be more seismic activity occurring across parts of the U.S. anytime or in the coming week. Again, the potential for more mag. 6+ in the world anytime within the next week is strong again so far.

https://twitter.com/SeismicFox1

Outlook: 11/27/21

So far, there are currently moderate levels of seismic activity in the world. A couple of strong earthquakes have occurred in this latest watch issued a couple of days ago. There may still be a lot going on over the next few days at this point. It could go quiet again, but there may be a large earthquake somewhere within the next week. It either could become very active any time or day now where it becomes calmer by the beginning of December or it could become quiet and then something big strikes somewhere in the early part of the coming month. There have been more small earthquakes taking place in Middle America and the Eastern U.S. lately. There has also been more activity going on off the Pacific Northwest Coast. There could also be more taking place up in Alaska.

Update: 11/25/21

A magnitude 6.1 hit the Solomon Islands region hours ago. The activity elsewhere in the world has been relatively low. There may or may not be more significant activity going on today, but there is still a strong chance of it being more active this weekend or early next week. Other areas we may need to look out for include: Indonesia(Nias region, Sumatra, Sulawesi), Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Central America, Argentina, Chile, Aleutian Islands, Iran, Eastern Turkey, the Caspian Sea region.. Some more activity may still be taking place across parts of the United States outside of California. A small cluster of quakes have occurred in the border between North Carolina and Virginia.

Update: 11/24/21

So far, there have been signs of more serious earthquake activity in the world. There are numerous smaller events going on, but there has not been a magnitude 6 or greater anywhere yet. There is likely to be a magnitude 6 or larger taking place somewhere any time within the next 5-7 days at this point. Regions to watch may include: Parts of Asia such as China, Iran, Northern India, Pakistan, or Myanmar(Burma), Indonesia(Nias, Sumatra, or Sulawesi), Taiwan, Japan, Kuril Islands, Solomon Islands region, Tonga, Fiji, Gulf Of Alaska, possibly the Pacific Northwest Coast, Central America.. Meanwhile some more seismic activity is flaring up across parts of the United States once more. There is the possibility of something going on off of the Pacific NW coast. A number of smaller quakes have occurred in the margin of the Pacific and Juan De Fuca plates. More activity may be going on in California, the Rockies, and even possibly the Central and/or Eastern U.S. There have been a few more small earthquakes in the Central and Eastern U.S. over the last couple of days. There is still a high potential for large earthquake activity in the world any time or day now.

EQ Watch: 11/22-28/21

I had to delete a post I made the other day. The global activity has been starting and then stopping over the last few days. It would start to show signs of becoming more significantly active somewhere out there with a few moderate earthquakes, but then it would become quiet again. At this point, it could push into later in the week. At the same time, a large earthquake could strike somewhere at any time. Places to watch may include: Philippines(Mindanao), Indonesia(Sumatra, Banda Sea and Molucca Sea regions), parts of Central Asia such as Pakistan, Northern India, and Myanmar(Burma), Turkey, Taiwan, Peru, Argentina.. Some minor activity may be flaring up again across parts of the U.S. such as the West Coast, Western Texas, and possibly the Central and Eastern States. Again, more strong earthquake activity may be on the rise in the world any time or day now. Although it could end up staying relatively quiet for now, it might become more active by later this week. However, there is also a decent chance it can change at any time.

It was reported that 3 derelict buildings were damaged. Other regions in the world that is or could potentially be active may include: Japan, the Northern Mariana Islands, Indonesia(Sulawesi, the Banda Sea region), Turkey, Central America, parts of Central Asia(Northern India, Myanmar, Western China, Peru, Chile, Tonga, Fiji, New Zealand, Loyalty Islands.. There have been signs of more seismic activity occurring in the New Madrid Seismic Zone over the past 2-3 days. A few other small earthquakes have popped up across parts of the South. There has been a rise in seismic activity in  the Central and Eastern U.S. over the past week. There may also be more seismic activity flaring up in other parts of the U.S. such as western TX, CA, NV, and also potentially Idaho, and/or Wyoming. There may still be more strong earthquakes occurring somewhere in the world any time or day now.

Friday, November 5, 2021

New EQ Watch: 11/5-12/21

The activity has been fluctuating over the last 2 days and there may still be a very high potential for a large earthquake somewhere in the world within the next week or any day now. Regions that could be active would include: Japan, the Northern Mariana Islands, Micronesia, Philippines(Batan Islands, Mindanao), Papua New Guinea, Indonesia(Banda Sea, Java, Sumatra), Myanmar, Loyalty Islands, Tonga, New Zealand, Chile, Peru, Argentina, the Aleutian Islands, Kuril Islands.. There may also be more seismic activity flaring up around California, the Pacific Northwest, and/or parts of the Rockies. There could also be more going on elsewhere in the U.S. A widely felt earthquake in the Central or Eastern U.S. anytime soon cannot be ruled out. There has been some more earthquakes taking place on this side of the country over the past week. There again is a high chance of more strong earthquake activity worldwide within the week ahead so far.

Update: 11/1/21

More significant activity has occurred in parts of the world. A magnitude 6.1 struck the South Sandwich Islands earlier - an aftershock from the mag. 8.1 back in August. A magnitude 6.0 just occurred west of Nias, Indonesia just over an hour ago. There is still a soaring potential for more strong EQ activity out there. Other areas that may be active would include: the Philippines(Batan Islands region), Japan, Northern Mariana Islands, Micronesia, New Caledonia(Loyalty Islands), Aleutian Islands(Alaska), Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, Peru, Chile.. More activity has also flared up across the USA. A magnitude 4.5 struck northern New Mexico last night and some more activity is occurring across parts of the Central and Eastern U.S. A couple of micro quakes popped up in the New Madrid area and a mag. 2.2 occurred in northern Arkansas early this morning and a mag. 2.0 later happened in the Jenkinsville area of South Carolina.

Saturday, October 30, 2021

Update: 10/30/21

More significant activity is on the rise in parts of the world. The largest quake over the past 24 hours was a magnitude 5.9 in the western Indian-Antarctic Ridge. There is still a very high chance of magnitude 6 or greater somewhere any time or day now so far. Other areas that could be under the gun would include: Philippines(Mindanao, Batan Islands region), Papua New Guinea, Micronesia, Japan(Hokkaido), Kamchatka Peninsula, Aleutian Islands, Laos, Indonesia, Tonga, Fiji, Kermadec Islands, Loyalty Islands, Pakistan, Peru, Chile, or Colombia.. The activity on this side of the country is interesting. There has not been any newly recorded events coming up today so far(except in eastern Canada), but there has very recently been a line going from western Texas to eastern Canada. It looks like it is cutting into the Saint Lawrence Seaway, into the St. Lawrence River, down into the Great Lakes and so on. Then there is the New Madrid Seismic Zone where there has been 20-odd earthquakes recorded there over the last month - the biggest being a 2.8. There has also been more earthquakes popping up in the Southeast - Eastern TN/Western NC and South Carolina. I'm not suggesting that a new tectonic plate might be forming on this side of the country, although that isn't impossible. I'm just examining what has been going on in the Eastern Seaboard now that I currently live here. Again, there is a very high potential for large earthquake activity in the world within the week ahead so far.

Friday, October 29, 2021

EQ Watch: 10/30-11/6/21

There is now more significant earthquake activity on the rise in the world again. A magnitude 6 or greater within the week ahead is likely so far. A magnitude 5.7(Kermadec Islands region) and a magnitude 5.2(Peru) have occurred less than an hour apart. There could even be a magnitude 7+ somewhere within the next 7 days at this point. Regions in the world to watch would include: the Aleutian Islands(Alaska, USA), Central America, Papua New Guinea, the Northern Mariana Islands region, Japan, Indonesia(Sumatra, Java, Banda Sea region), Philippines(Mindanao), Micronesia, possibly Italy, and parts of the Southwestern Pacific Ring of Fire.. Meanwhile, more seismic activity has been on the rise in various parts of the United States. There has been more activity going on in Central California and parts of the Rockies. There has also been more activity flaring up in parts of Texas and even the Southeast, particularly in South Carolina most recently. Five very small quakes have occurred near the town of Jenkinsville, SC over the last 5 days- the largest being magnitude 2.2. Again, there is a very high potential for more strong earthquake activity in the world any time now or within the coming week so far. At the same time, it could fall quiet within these next several days before it fires back up.

Update: 10/19/21

Hours ago, a magnitude 5.9 tremor occurred off the coast of Greece. This was only a week after a damaging magnitude 6.4 hit Crete. The epicenter of the most recent quake is believed to be close to the Dodecanese Island of Rhodes. Witnesses reported feeling rooms "sway side to side" and seeing beds and other furniture moving. The activity in other parts of the world is probably winding back down for now. There may still be more going on this week, but for now, it may become quiet. That is what may be going on at this point. It can also end up changing later on.

Update: 10/18/21

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck the Vanuatu region hours ago. There was no threat of a tsunami. There continues to be more activity on the rise in parts of the world. Meanwhile, an earthquake in Bali has killed 3 people and it was not even a large earthquake. Dozens of homes were reported to have been destroyed. Apart from the 3 confirmed deaths, at least seven people were reported to have sustained head injuries and broken bones. The quake also triggered landslides in some areas. There is still a very high potential for more strong earthquake activity somewhere in the world. Other regions to watch may include: Myanmar, Northern India(or other parts of Central Asia), the Hokkaido, Japan region, Kuril Islands, Indonesia(Java, the Banda Sea region, Molucca Sea), Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Fiji region, Central America or parts of the Caribbean or Colombia..

New EQ Watch: 10/16-22/21

The activity around the world is increasing again so far. There is a very high potential for more strong earthquake activity somewhere out there any time or day now within the week ahead so far. At this point, there could be more moderate to potentially large EQs in the world, but could occur days apart instead of all in one or 2-3 days. At the same time, a lot could still happen in a short amount of time. Regions to look out for may include: Indonesia(Sumatra, Sulawesi, Java, Kepulauan Babar, the Molucca Sea or Banda Sea region), Papua New Guinea, Taiwan, Kuril Islands, Japan(Hokkaido), Iran, the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga, the Kermadec Islands, Chile.. Some more activity has also started occurring throughout parts of the U.S. again including California, Nevada, Idaho, Western Texas, and even the Central U.S. So far, more mag. 6+ may be on the rise in the world again any time or day now so far. I will provide updates here and on Twitter.

Wednesday, October 13, 2021

Outlook: 10/13/21

It has been a very active last 5 days. There could still be some more moderate to potentially significant activity going on in the world anytime now, but it could be relatively quiet until next week. Although another earthquake of mag. 6+ or in the upper magnitude 5 range is possible today or this week, it could be winding down for now. There is still the possibility of it being active somewhere now, but it may be over for now. The next surge in global activity may not be for another week or two at this point. In the meantime, there may be more moderate earthquakes in certain areas or in mid-ocean ridges. There has been very low levels of activity throughout most of the United States. However, there could be more going on again any time now this week and/or next week. At the same time, it still may become more active somewhere anytime now or this week.

Update: 10/12/21

A strong magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Crete(Greece) 3 weeks after another one killed one person and damaged hundreds of buildings. The Geodynamic Institute in Athens said the undersea earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 and occurred at 12:24 p.m. local time off the Island's eastern coast. It was felt as far as the coast of Turkey and the Island of Cyprus, more than 500 kilometer(310 miles) to the east, authorities said. This was the second significant temblor in a month. On September 27, a magnitude 5.8 struck the same region. A man was killed while carrying out restoration work at a church that was damaged in the area. Residents whose homes were damaged were moved to hotels and tents set up by the army. There have been no reports of serious damage or injuries from this most recent quake despite the fact that it was strong and occurred at a shallow depth.

Update: 10/11/21

A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck the Alaska peninsula earlier this morning. The U.S. Tsunami Warning System said there was no threat of a tsunami after the earthquake. The quake was upgraded from a preliminary magnitude of 6.5 and had a depth of 31.6 miles. There were no reports of injuries or damage following the event. Yesterday, there were two strong earthquakes just off of Hawaii's Big Island. The first quake was magnitude 6.1 and the second was magnitude of 6.2. There was no threat of a tsunami. The Hawaii Department of Transportation said that there was no damage from the earthquake at airport runways, commercial harbors, or highway bridges. At a gas station in Naalehu, the refrigerator display doors were swung open and items fell onto the floor. There continues to be high levels of seismic activity in throughout the world. The potential for more significant earthquakes somewhere out there in the world any time now or within the next 2 days is still high so far. Other places that may be potentially active include Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Southwestern Pacific(Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Tonga), Japan, Kuril Islands, Chile, or Peru.. It has not been very active in the Continental U.S. over the past 2-3 days. There have not been any new small quakes reported in the New Madrid Seismic Zone or in Eastern TN/Appalachian Mountains over the past several days. There has been no activity going on in Western Texas and there has not been very much going on in California either. I'm not sure what could be next. It has not felt like anything interesting happening anywhere in the States. Perhaps there may be more noticeable activity taking place in parts of the Rockies or Eastern CA/Nevada anytime now. There could be more activity occurring in the Central and/or Eastern U.S. anytime this week. It has overall felt like more or less of the same. There is no telling whether something significant could be going on in this part of the country in the near future. It is possible for something widely felt to happen in the Central U.S. or in Appalachians, but intraplate earthquake zones are not easy to understand. I will be having to do more research on this in another post.

Update: 10/9/21

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck the Vanuatu region a few hours ago. No tsunami warning was issued. This was likely an aftershock from the magnitude 7.2 a week ago. There still may be more strong earthquake activity going on in the world anytime now or within the next several days so far. Other regions to watch may include: Iran, Myanmar, the Andaman Islands region, Indonesia(the Banda Sea region), East Timor, New Guinea, Papua New Guinea, Philippines(Luzon), Japan, Kuril Islands, Aleutian Islands, Southern Peru, Bolivia, or Chile, and the Southwest Pacific..

Updated EQ Watch: 10/8-13/21

There was a magnitude 6.1 in the Macquarie Island region yesterday. It may have slowed down some for now, but there is still a high potential for more significant activity in the world anytime this weekend or early next week so far. At the point, my next post will be an outlook for the month. It may become quiet after this. Again, this is not to be written in stone. It can change. Regions that could be active any time now might include: Myanmar, Andaman Islands region, Nias(Indonesia), Sumatra(Indonesia), Molucca Sea region, Papua New Guinea, Philippines(Luzon), Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands.. Most of the energy is coming from the Eastern Hemisphere or Western Pacific Plate. Although there still could be something going in in South or Central America, it feels like most of the energy is coming from that direction. There have been significantly more earthquakes going on in those regions.

Update: 10/7/21

Instead of making a post immediately the next morning following an earthquake somewhere, it would be wiser for me to wait and process everything else going on in the world. After I deliver the news of the aftermath, I also scope what else could be going on out there in the world. It was not feeling immediately active out there earlier this morning, but that changed about an hour or two later. The magnitude 5.9 that struck southwestern Pakistan early Thursday morning has claimed the lives of 20 people. There has also been significant damage to structures in the area. Officials fear that the death toll may rise. There is still a very high potential for more strong earthquake activity in the world anytime or day now. This could extend into the weekend and early next week. A magnitude 5.9 occurred east of Tokyo, Japan several hours ago. The shaking was estimated to be a VI on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale according to reports coming out of the area. It came up as code green on the pager which means that casualties and damage are unlikely. The structures in this region are resistant to earthquake shaking, though some vulnerable structures exist. On the other hand, the earthquake that struck Pakistan was of the same magnitude, yet it had an intensity rating of VII and the overall structures are extremely vulnerable to earthquake shaking. The pager came up as green likely due to the affected region being sparsely populated. Other regions that could be candidates for the next significant or major earthquake may include: Papua New Guinea, Indonesia(Sumbawa region, Java, Sumatra, or Nias), the Myanmar region, Philippines(Luzon), New Zealand, Peru, Argentina, Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands.. Some more seismic activity has occurred in the Sierra Nevada region of California as well as Nevada and a couple of Rocky Mountain States. There has also been some more small quakes popping up across parts of Texas and Oklahoma. There are still signs of some activity taking place in the Central and Eastern side of the country. One micro earthquake was recorded in the New Madrid Seismic Zone early this morning. I will be monitoring this side of the country more thoroughly. It is unclear what could be going on, but it has seemed a little more active most recently. Around 50 quakes have been recorded in the Central and Eastern U.S. over the past month. I may recall the number being a little lower the month prior to the latest. 29 earthquakes have been recorded in the New Madrid region over the past month, 12 in Eastern TN/Appalachian region, around 11 throughout parts of Arkansas(leaning towards the northeastern corner of the state towards New Madrid), one in southeastern Illinois, one in Virginia, 3 in the Northeast, and 3 near Charleston, SC(Charleston was once devastated by a major earthquake in 1886). I will be watching this side of the country more consistently. Other than that, I will also be monitoring the rest of the world and the potential for more significant EQ activity going on somewhere is still very high.

Update: 10/6/21

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake was reported near Harnai, Pakistan. It was at 3:01 a.m. local time on October 7th. This quake occurred overnight when most residents were asleep in bed. People there were woken by it and frightened. I'm observing the Twitter feed for additional news on it. So far, no scenes or footage of damage there have come out. There is still a very high potential for more significant earthquake activity in the world this week. The other day, a magnitude 6.3 struck the South Sandwich Islands which was part of the massive sequence that occurred over a month ago. Other potential regions that could be active may include: Japan, the Kuril Islands, Ryukyu Islands(Japan), Taiwan, Philippines(Batan and Babuyan Islands region, Luzon), Bonin Islands(Japan), Indonesia(Banda Sea region), Andaman Islands, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Iran, Fiji, the Samoas, Tonga.. Some more small earthquakes have occurred in parts of the Central and Eastern United States over the last day. There may be even more going on within the week ahead. There may also be more activity going on in parts of Nevada, Eastern California, Idaho, and Utah. There again is still a high potential for more strong earthquake activity somewhere in the world this week so far.

Update: 10/2/21

A magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck near Vanuatu some hours ago. No tsunami warning was issued. There were also no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the quake. There may still be more significant activity going on out there. Other regions to watch may include the Aleutian Islands, Izu or Bonin Islands(Japan), Philippines(Luzon or the Batan and Babuyan Islands region), Indonesia(Banda Sea region), Papua New Guinea, Northern Mariana Islands, Micronesia(State of Yap), Fiji region, Bolivia, Peru, Myanmar region...

EQ Watch: 10/1-8/21

The potential for more strong earthquake activity in the world within the week ahead is very high again so far. It may not be very active out there yet, but more mag. 6+ anytime within the next 6-8 days is of a very high chance. Regions to watch may include: Myanmar, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Aleutian Islands(Alaska), Northern Mariana Islands, Philippines(Luzon, Batan Islands, Babuyan Islands), Indonesia(the Babar Islands region, Sumbawa, Java), Micronesia, Bonin Islands(Japan), Bolivia, Peru... There may or may not be anything significant going on anywhere today, but there is a very high chance of it becoming active somewhere out there anytime or day now so far. More seismic activity could be heating up across parts of the United States including parts of California, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. More seismic activity increasing in the Central and/or Eastern United States anytime or day now within the coming week or two is also possible.

Update: 9/25/21

Yesterday morning, a magnitude 6.1 occurred in the Aleutian Islands(Alaska, U.S.A.). So far now, there is not much else going on. There may not be anymore significant activity going on in the world for now. At the same time, it can always change later on. It has been an active week. The next active window may be 2 weeks from now. However, another strong earthquake occurring somewhere within the next 7 days still is not out of the question of course. It seems like after there has been some signs of seismic activity going on in the New Madrid Seismic Zone daily for a week or so, there is nothing going on there for days following that. There has not been any signs of activity going on in Eastern TN/Appalachian region in a while. Western Texas has had a lot of activity going on recently.

Update: 9/22/21

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck off the coast of Nicaragua this morning at 4:57 a.m. It had a moderate focal depth of 20 miles and was located 48.5 miles off the coast of the beach resort of Jiquilillo. No tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of damage. Meanwhile in Australia, buildings in Melbourne were damaged from the magnitude 5.9 tremor, but there were no immediate reports of serious injuries or deaths. Hospitals were forced to evacuate. Earthquakes of that size in that region are rare. The potential threat for more significant activity out there in the world may not be over yet. That may also be it for now but it still feels tense out there right now at this point.

2nd Update: 9/21/21

More significant activity has indeed occurred in other parts of the world today. Earlier, a magnitude 6.4 struck near the coast of Bio-Bio, Chile. No damage or injuries were reported. A magnitude 5.8 just struck Southwestern Australia an hour ago, which is not common in that part of the world for an earthquake of that size. Its epicenter was 128 kilometers(79.5 miles) east of Melbourne, Victoria's State Capital. So far, there have not been any reports of injuries. However, there have been reports of damage to buildings in the Melbourne area. More seismic activity has been occurring in Southern California today. A mag. 3.7 with an aftershock of 3.5 occurred near Anza. Numerous micro quakes have followed, like a swarm. There has also been some more seismic activity occurring across other parts of the United States today and there could be more to come within days. Multiple small quakes have occurred across Texas and Oklahoma. There have also been more micro quakes occurring in the New Madrid Seismic Zone each day over the past week. A mag. 3.1 occurred there last Monday on the 12th which was felt by a number of people in the area. Small earthquakes in intraplate seismic zones are far less frequent than small earthquakes along plate boundaries, so the NMSZ may have been showing signs of becoming more active lately. There have been periods where there has not been any micro EQs in the NMSZ in several days while some more micro EQs have occurred in Eastern TN.

Update: 9/21/21

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck the Kuril Islands yesterday and there has been more moderate activity occurring around parts of the world. There is still a high potential for more significant activity going on somewhere. Other places to watch may include: Chile, Peru, Central America, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia(Banda and Molucca Sea regions), Izu Islands(Japan).. At the same time, the activity could be relatively low for now. There is still a high potential for more significant activity in the world this week.

New EQ Watch: 9/19-26/21

So far, there is a very high chance of mag. 6 or greater somewhere in the world this week so far. There could be a strong earthquake somewhere any moment now or sometime within the week. Regions that could be under the gun may include: Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands region, Tonga, Vanuatu, New Zealand, Fiji, Indonesia(Banda Sea region, Sulawesi, Molucca Sea region, Sumatra), East Timor, Myanmar(Burma), Japan, Kuril Islands, Central America, Chile.. There has also been more activity occurring across parts of the United States over the past day or two including a mag. 4.1 in Western Texas and today a mag. 4.1 struck Oklahoma. More small quakes have occurred in the New Madrid Seismic Zone and a small mag. 2.6 occurred off the coast of Rhode Island. More earthquakes have also flared up in the Stanley, Idaho area and some more activity is heating up in parts of Alaska. So far, it may be becoming more active in the world again any moment now, but at the same time, it could go quiet before more significant activity starts taking place this week.

Outlook: 9/18/21

I'm no longer going to give an outlook for the rest of the month because there is no way of telling what could be going on 2 weeks from now. Things can change within a day or even hours. I'm still feeling there may be more activity going on out there in the world. There is a high potential for a magnitude 6 or bigger somewhere within the next 5-7 days so far. I doubt there is going to be a major outbreak before the month is over as there were already a lot of explosive periods over the past two months. There has been some signs of more activity in the New Madrid Seismic Zone over the past week. A magnitude 3.1 occurred in Western Tennessee almost a week ago. There has been a lot of seismic activity going on in Southern California late yesterday and this morning. There has also been more activity occurring in Central and Northern California. There may be more going on in Central and/or Northern CA and/or Nevada any time now. More activity may also be continuing to take place across other parts of the U.S.

Update: 9/13/21

An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 struck Argentina early Monday. Preliminary data revealed that the quake occurred at a depth of 180 km(111 miles). Its strength may have been tempered by its depth below the surface. The quake was likely felt by many in the area, but probably did not cause any injuries, deaths, or significant damage. There still could be more going on out there in the world. A magnitude 3.1 occurred in Western Tennessee late last night. At least 44 people reported feeling the earthquake on the USGS website. It was part of the New Madrid Seismic Zone. There also may have been something in the Appalachians overnight. It appeared on seismometers around Eastern TN. It was probably in southeastern TN.

New Watch: 9/10-15/21

There is a lot of activity going on in the world again now so far. There may be more mag. 6+ going on somewhere any time or day now again. Regions that could be candidates would include: Indonesia(Java, Sumatra, the Banda Sea region), Papua New Guinea, Myanmar, Western China, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, the Kuril Islands, Japan(Hokkaido), the Aleutian Islands, possibly the eastern Carribean plate region, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Tonga, Greece... So far, it is showing signs of being active again out there. There may also possibly be something going on in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, British Columbia, or Southeastern Alaska. There have also been more earthquakes occurring around the Western United States. There could be more activity coming up in the Central and/or Eastern United States any time or day now. It could end up winding back down again in the world, but as of right now, it could be acting up again.

Update: 9/8/21

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck near the beach resort of Acapulco, Mexico last night. A man was killed by a falling post and it triggered rock slides and buildings were damaged. It may not be over yet. There still could be more significant earthquake activity taking place somewhere else in the world. I'm still feeling some pain. I'm not sure where it is coming from. So far, there has been little activity taking place on the eastern side of the United States. However, there could be more coming up within the days to come. I'm not sure, but there could be something going on somewhere around this side of the country. There has been more activity occurring in the west. There could be something going on somewhere along the Pacific Northwest coast or the Gulf of Alaska region.

Update: 9/7/21

A magnitude 6.0 struck the Tonga region earlier. There still may be more significant activity on the rise in the world. It could be a slow-burning, drawn-out episode(active window). There could be a brief quiet period between more significant earthquakes within the week ahead. This watch may extend through the weekend. Other regions of possible concern may include: Western Turkey, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Japan(Kyushu or Hokkaido), Central America, Bolivia, Chile, Indonesia, Myanmar or Central Asia... There has also been ongoing activity in Southeastern Alaska. I'm also monitoring that area.

Update: 9/6/21

There were reports turning up on my feed of a magnitude 6.5 in the British Columbia area. As I retweeted the reports, I had a feeling there wasn't a strong earthquake anywhere. There so far has been a couple of earthquakes in the high magnitude 5 range over the last few days. The activity is not real low but there have been numerous smaller events in the world. There is still a very high chance of magnitude 6 or greater in the world within the next several days or any time now. Regions that could be candidates for the next significant earthquake may include: the Gulf of Alaska region or possibly the Pacific Northwest coast, the Kuril Islands, Japan(Hokkaido), the Northern Mariana Islands, Central America, Peru, Chile, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, Indonesia, Myanmar, Afghanistan region... Again, there still may be some more significant activity going on somewhere out there any time or day now so far.

Update: 9/4/21

So far, there is not very much going on out there yet. I have not been feeling it lately, at least since yesterday. However, it may likely become active within the next few days. It could still become active somewhere out there today, but at the same time, it could stay quiet all day. I extended the watch to the 10th for a reason. There was some moderate earthquakes occurring over the past 2 days, but it may not be that active anywhere yet. Mag. 6+ somewhere in the world within the next 5-7 days are highly likely. Regions that could be candidates may include: Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Northern Mariana Islands, Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, Afghanistan region, Greece, Western Turkey, Chile, Central America, the Kuril Islands region, Aleutian Islands, Tonga, Vanuatu, Fiji region.. In the meantime, some more seismic activity is flaring up in Southern and Central California. There may still be more activity occurring across parts of the U.S. There has been ongoing activity in parts of Texas and parts of the Interior West such as Idaho. There is also activity increasing in Alaska right now.

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands hours ago. There is a high potential for more significant activity in the world again within the week ahead. I was contemplating making a post yesterday evening, but was having a hard time getting my bearings and had other things going on. Areas to watch may include: Indonesia(the Banda Sea region), Papua New Guinea, the Andaman Islands region, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Eastern Mediterranean Sea region, Central America, Venezuela, Chile, Tonga, Vanuatu, Fiji region, Kuril Islands, Aleutian Islands.. There could be more mag. 6+ imminent somewhere in the world any time now within the next 5-7 days. There may or may not be more going on right now, but there is a very high chance for more strong EQ activity somewhere in the world within the week ahead so far.
