2nd Update: 5-31-20

There has been more moderate to potentially significant activity increasing in parts of the world again. The chances of mag. 6-7+ anytime now or this week somewhere are extremely high. Regions of potential concern include: Indonesia, Japan, Northern Mariana Islands region, Philippines, Iran, Chile, Peru, Central America, New Zealand, Tonga, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Kuril Islands region...
There still may be more seismic activity on the rise in Southern California this week so far. I will be providing updates as the week progresses.

Update: May 31, 2020

Late last night, a magnitude 6.0 occurred in Southern Peru. The quake was likely too deep to cause a lot of damage. There may still be a very high chance for more large EQs in the world any time now, but there also may not be much going on for right now. Although another significant event could occur somewhere at any moment, that may be it for right now. It could end up going into next week for when the next major earthquake could occur. At the same time, more large and potentially dangerous events somewhere in the world any time or any day this week still pose a very high chance so far.
There was more activity starting to increase in Southern California overnight and early this morning. The chances of more going on any day now are very high. However, there also may not be anything going on here yet right now. There is a lot more to come within the week ahead so far. It could be within the next two weeks when more exciting activity starts taking place here.

NEW EQ WATCH: May 30 - June 8, 2020

The chances of mag. 6-7+ worldwide anytime or day now are extremely high again so far. The areas to watch out for include: Japan, New Zealand(Cook Inlet area), Philippines(Mindanao, Luzon, or Batan Islands), Indonesia(Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, or the Banda Sea region), Papua New Guinea, Northern Mariana Islands, Kuril Islands, Tonga, Vanuatu, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Central America, Greece, Hindu Kush region, Myanmar...
There is a lot of activity taking place out there.
At this point, there is a very high potential a large quake could occur somewhere anytime now or sometime within the week ahead. As for Southern California, so far, it is quite the opposite. It has been extremely uneventful here today so far. There is a strong potential a lot more will start taking place this week. It could end up changing later on today or this evening or it may be another 2 or 3 days.
I will be providing updates as the week continues.

Update: May 28, 2020

The chances of more powerful earthquakes somewhere in the world remain very high. There is now a very high chance for a magnitude 7 or greater somewhere anytime now or within the week ahead so far. The watch extends into June 2, 3, and 4 at this point. Something big could still occur somewhere at any time. I will be posting consistently if it changes. Regions that could be potential candidates for the next major quake include: Indonesia(Banda Sea, Molucca Sea, Java, Sumatra), Philippines(Mindanao, Luzon, or the Batan Islands), Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Vanuaru, New Zealand, Northern Mariana Islands, Taiwan, Japan(Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, or the Ryukyu Islands), Kamchatka Peninsula, Kuril Islands, Aleutian Islands(Fox Islands, Andreanof Islands, or Rat Islands), Mexico(Chiapas, Michoacan, Oaxaca), Chile, Argentina, Andaman Islands, Myanmar, South Sandwich Islands..
It could still change at any time. There also may not be any major earthquake activity going on anywhere at all for another week at the same time. More significant EQ activity ramped up overnight(PDT) in the Western Ring of Fire. The largest was a magnitude 5.9 in the Tonga region. Closer to home, there may continue to be little going on here in Southern California for now. However, a magnitude 3-4+ event stands of a higher potential this weekend or next week so far. There may also be more mag. 3+ up in the Ridgecrest area any time or any day now. There has also been some more activity increasing in Central California.

Update: May 27, 2020

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred in Vanuatu during the overnight hours. There were no reports of casualties or injuries nor was there a tsunami as a result. There is still a very high potential for more large earthquakes in the world any time now or any day so far. The areas of potential concern would include: Indonesia(Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, Timor Trench, Banda Sea), Philippines(Mindanao, Luzon, or the Batan Islands), Japan(Ryukyu Islands, Kyushu, Honshu, or Hokkaido), Kuril Islands, Kamchatka Peninsula, Northern Mariana Islands, Vanuatu, Tonga, New Zealand, Myanmar, Hindu Kush region, Iran, Greece, Aleutian Islands, Alaska, Queen Charlotte Islands region, Central America(Mexico - Chiapas, Michoacan, Oaxaca, or Guerro, El Salvador, Nicaragua), Ecuador, Peru, or Chile..
I'm just now beginning to monitor the Pacific Northwest coast now. There may not have been much going on there lately, but there could just now be something looming any day now. There could just be a magnitude 4+ in Northern California, Oregon, or Washington, but there could also be nothing going on there at all right now. There may be more activity increasing here in Southern California any moment now. More mag. 3-4+ may be on the rise here any time or any day so far. There may also be more activity increasing in other parts of California or other parts of the West such as Utah.
There is also that ongoing aftershock sequence in Nevada. It could also become relatively quiet in the world for now at the same time. If nothing large happens somewhere this week then it will likely be next week.

EQ WATCH: May 24 - 31, 2020

There is a lot of significant activity occurring in the world so far. The chances of magnitude 6-7+ somewhere any moment or any day now are extremely high. Regions to watch out for include: Indonesia(Sumatra, Sulawesi, Java, the Banda Sea region), Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Northern Mariana Islands, Japan(Honshu, Hokkaido, Ryukyu Islands), Taiwan, China(Xizang), Myanmar, Andaman Islands, Hindu Kush region, Iran, Western Turkey, Southern Greece, Central America, Chile, Ecuador, New Zealand, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Aleutian Islands..
More magnitude 4+ aftershocks are likely in Nevada. There may now be little going on in Southern California right now, but there is a very high potential for it to heat up anytime now or this week with increased activity. There may be more activity in the Ridgecrest area as well.

Update: May 22, 2020

So far, there has been more significant earthquake activity increasing in the world. At around 1:46 A.M.(PDT), a magnitude 6.1 struck about 120 miles Southeast of the Baja Peninsula of Mexico. More serious activity may be on the rise in parts of the world any time now. More activity has been heating up in  Southern California so far. There may have not been any magnitude 3+ yet, but the potential for much more to come any time or day now are still very high. There could also be something more significant taking place along the Southern coast of Alaska, the Gulf of Alaska, or the Aleutian Islands.
There are of course, other potential candidates for the next large earthquake such as the Guam region, Indonesia, Japan, Central America, Peru, Papua New Guinea, the Southwestern Pacific Ocean(the areas from the Solomon Islands to New Zealand) as well as the Eastern Mediterranean Sea region. Central Asia has still been more active lately(from Western portions of China to the Hindu Kush region). At this point, there still may be more large earthquakes due somewhere at any time or within the week ahead. I will keep the world posted.

Thursday, May 21, 2020

EQ WATCH: May 21 - 30, 2020

So far, the chances of magnitude 6-7+ earthquakes somewhere in the world any time or day now are extremely high again. At the same time, it could die back down where nothing serious happens until next month, but as of right now, there is a very high chance again. Regions that could potentially be impacted include: Indonesia(the Molucca, Flores, and Banda Sea region, Sumatra, Sulawesi), Northern Mariana Islands(Guam), Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, Philippines(Batan Islands, Mindanao), Japan(Honshu, Hokkaido, Izu Islands, Ryukyu Islands), Taiwan, Andaman Islands, Northern India, Afghanistan or Pakistan, Western Turkey, Southern Greece, Aleutian Islands, Central America, possibly parts of the Caribbean(Cayman Islands, Barbados or perhaps Colombia or Venezuela), Peru, Chile..
So far, there still might be more activity occurring in Southern California anytime now. There is still a very high chance of magnitude 4+ anytime or any day. There was more activity warming up here yesterday and this morning. The Ridgecrest sequence may start heating up some more again any moment now or within the week. More aftershocks also continue in Nevada. There is also still a high chance for more activity in Southern Alaska as well. There has been some more activity going on there. Again, it could flatten again, but the chances of large earthquakes somewhere in the world anytime now are very high again so far.

May 19, 2020

So far, there still may be a lot going on out there in the world. More moderate earthquake activity is likely in active parts of the world at any time with the potential of something more serious somewhere. Yesterday, a magnitude 5.2 earthquake caused damage and claimed several lives in China's Yunnan Province. Remember, don't try to run out of a building when an earthquake occurs. You will more likely be injured that way as debris comes crashing down from the building's exterior.
Places in the world that may be most likely impacted by the next round of moderate to potentially large earthquakes include: Japan(Honshu, Hokkaido, Bonin, and/or Izu Islands), Northern Mariana Islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia(Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, or the Kepulauan Barat Daya region), Central Asia(parts of China, the Hindu Kush region, Tajikistan, or Pakistan), Greece region, Central America, Chile, Peru, Colombia, possibly the Puerto Rico region again or somewhere in the Caribbean, Solomon Islands region, Tonga, Fiji...
There is still potential more significant activity could take place in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. There could also be more going on in the Southern part of the State. There is a strong potential for mag. 4+ in Southern Alaska any time now or sometime within the week. There is still likely to be more mag. 3-4+ aftershocks in Nevada. There is also a high chance of mag. 3+ in Southern and/or Central California anytime or day now. There may be little going on here in Southern CA right now, but there is a very high chance of that changing this week. It could be today, but at the same time, it may not.
There may also be more heating up in the Ridgecrest and Mammoth Lakes area so far.

Outlook - 5/16/20

So far, it may be staying relatively quiet in the world for right now. It may end up being locked up like this for another day or two before more starts going off. However, a major earthquake could still also hit somewhere anytime now today or tomorrow. There is a very high potential for another large quake, but at the same time it might end up being delayed. It could be rather quiet around the world all weekend and not start up until Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. At the same time, there is still a fairly decent change of more serious activity anytime now.
I also will not be surprised if nothing big happens anywhere at all this next week. There is due to be a lot going on out there by the end of this month so far. One of the areas I'm now focusing more of my attention on are the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. There could also possibly be something going on mainland of the State such as the coast and the Kodiak region. Southern Mexico could have something significant going on anytime now. Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean may still be more active.
Again, there is still a very high chance for more activity here in Southern California as well as the Ridgecrest area. There might also be more mag. 3+ imminent in Central California or the Bay area. So far, a lot is likely expected at least by near the end of this month so far. It can always change, but this is the picture I'm getting so far.

New EQ Watch: May 16 - 25, 2020

There is now a new high potential for major earthquake activity in parts of the world anytime now or any day within the next week ahead. At the same time, it could end up staying very quiet before it starts acting up violently, at least somewhere. The regions that could be at risk include: Southern Alaska or the Aleutian Islands, Kamchatka Peninsula, Kuril Islands, Japan(Hokkaido, Honshu, Izu Islands, or Ryukyu Islands), Philippines, Northern Mariana Islands, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Fiji, Indonesia(Banda Sea region, Sulawesi, Java, or Sumatra), East Timor, Andaman Islands, Myanmar, Xizang - China, Tajikistan region, Hindu Kush region, Iran, Turkey or Greece, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Mexico...
There is also still a very high chance more potentially significant activity may be going on in parts of California and Nevada anytime or day now. At the same time, that may be it, but there is a potential for more going on in those areas. There is still a very high chance of more mag. 3-4+ events in Southern California any moment now or sometime within the week ahead so far.

Update: May 13, 2020

So far, there was one strong earthquake that happened later on yesterday. It was a magnitude 6.6 and it occurred in the Solomon Islands region - one of the places I cautioned yesterday in my post. It still may be an active day today even though there was not that much going on after that. At the same time, it might become relatively quiet. More magnitude 6-7+ are due in parts of the world at any time or any day.
There has been more activity taking place here in Southern California so far. We might be heading into more active times now. These magnitude 3s and 4s have been again, becoming more frequent. There has also been more taking place elsewhere in California. I'm not only growing increasingly concerned about Southern California, but also Central California. I'm not implying that something big might happen here today.
There just might be more serious events upon us. It has been quiet for too long. Although most of these most recent events occurred in the Imperial Valley, more might take place in the L.A. area and Inland Empire and/or even the Yucca Valley and high desert.

Update: May 12, 2020

I made a good decision by taking back a post I made earlier this morning. I was getting ready to call off the watch, but I had a feeling I may have spoken too soon. I decided to give it a little more time. After all, I was kind of just waking up. Less than an hour later, some more activity did start heating up out there. A magnitude 5.0 struck Peru and just now, a magnitude 4.9 earthquake occurred in Nepal. That is an area we may have to watch. A larger event there anytime or day now is possible. It may have already had its big one 5 years ago, but that does not mean another significant event anytime soon is out of the question.
There could be more taking place elsewhere in Central Asia any time now. There is still a high potential for more significant activity in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea region. So far, the potential for large earthquake activity somewhere in the world anytime now or sometime this week is extremely high again. A massive earthquake could even take place somewhere today, tomorrow, or next week at this point. The Banda Sea region is still an area of concern. Other areas to watch include: Japan, Philippines, Chile, Peru, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, Indonesia(Sulawesi, Sumatra, Java, Kepulauan Barat Daya)..
It could also end up becoming relatively quiet again where it stretches out to where there are a few magnitude 5s at a time throughout this week into next week. It could also become totally quiet for hours to a day before much more breaks out. However, a major earthquake anytime now or sometime this week still stands of a very high chance so far.
There has still been some more activity increasing in Southern California. Magnitude 3s and even 4s are becoming more frequent around here. Most of the activity has been occurring in the Imperial Valley area and near Anza.

Monday, May 11, 2020

Update: May 11, 2020

The activity around the world may have died down a little, but there is still a very high potential more big earthquakes are imminent somewhere in parts of the world this week. There is now more going on here in Southern California so far. The potential for something more serious might be dredging up again.
There was an earthquake of magnitude 2.5 close to my house less than an hour ago. There has been more popping up elsewhere around the state. A magnitude 4.4 occurred near Ocotillo Wells yesterday and a magnitude 3.1 occurred near Palm Springs earlier this morning. There looks like a lot is going on again here.

Sunday, May 10, 2020

EQ WATCH: May 10 - 17, 2020

The chances of major earthquake activity worldwide anytime now or within the week ahead are now extremely high so far. Regions of the most concern would include: Japan(Honshu, Hokkaido, or Izu Islands region), Indonesia(Banda Sea region, Sumatra, Java, Halmahera), East Timor, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Central America, Philippines, Central Asia(Western China, Afghanistan, Pakistan, or Myanmar), Iran, Western Turkey or Greece, Alaska(Kodiak Island region or the Aleutian Islands)..
There is more significant activity breaking out in active parts of the world so far. A major event might be imminent at any time or within the next 5-7 days at this point. There is also more activity increasing in Southern California again so far.

Friday, May 8, 2020

May 8, 2020 - Outlook

There has continued to be more moderate earthquake activity taking place throughout the world so far. Something big could still be imminent at any time. However, it could stretch out into next week. More moderate quakes with a couple of significant quakes(magnitude 6 or upper 5 range) could occur over the course of the next several days. A major event may still happen anytime now. At the same time, that could be it for now. At this point, it may be a drawn out kind of a thing, meaning that there may be continuous activity extending into next week - Including a potential for more serious activity somewhere without quiet gaps in between or leading up to it. That is how it has been so far lately.
So far, it is still hot out there in terms of tectonic activity. There may still be more activity heating up here in Southern California once more. It could become somewhat quiet for a short period this weekend, but there is likely much more to come. There was a 10-hour gap between magnitude 1+ EQs until just now. However, there were lots of micro EQs below magnitude 1 occurring in Southern California. There is still a very high chance for more magnitude 3-4+ quakes here anytime now or this next week so far. There is also more going on in other parts of California so far. I will do my best to refrain from posting in this blog daily. I want to avoid posting in this until Sunday or Monday.
In the meantime, I keep the world posted via Twitter:

Thursday, May 7, 2020

Update: 5/7/20

It started to lag later on throughout yesterday, but it was still due to become more active in parts of the world at any time. I still kept the alert levels up. At around 4:21 A.M.(California time), a magnitude 6.1 occurred roughly 110 miles East of New Ireland, 40 miles North of the Solomon Islands. It was at a depth of approximately 248.5 miles. There still is a very high chance of more large earthquake activity taking place in parts of the world any time now.
Lately, I have been growing increasingly concerned about the Eastern Mediterranean Sea region. Large quakes are far less common there than in the most active places in the world such as Indonesia, Chile, Tonga, and Japan, but there still is a high risk a particularly big event is possible in the near future. It has had major earthquakes before.
There is even a  possibility other parts of Eastern Europe such as Romania, that a significant event may take place there anytime or sometime in the near future. It also might not happen.
Besides the usual most active regions, Central Asia and Western China have been more active again recently. The is also a chance the Caribbean plate region is heating back up again. There is still more activity revving up here in Southern California. It may continue like this on into this weekend and even past that so far. More mag. 3-4+ events here and in other parts of the state may still be on the rise at any time.

Wednesday, May 6, 2020

Update: May 6, 2020

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake occurred in the Timor Trench region at around 6:53 Pacific Daylight Time this morning. It had a focal depth of 66 miles and no tsunami occurred. The potential for more large earthquakes worldwide are still extremely high so far. It is possible an even bigger quake could strike that same region anytime or day now. I have been warning the world about that area in particular recently.
In Southern California a magnitude 4.0 occurred in the Salton Buttes, near Niland overnight. There is a swarm taking place in that area. More activity in Southern California as well as Central and/or Northern California might be on the rise now.
As for the rest of the world goes, the potential candidates for the next large quakes include: the Andaman Islands, Myanmar, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Greece, East Timor, the Molucca Sea region, Indonesia(Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, Talaud Islands, Tanimbar Islands), Papua New Guinea, Tonga, the Samoas, Northern Mariana Islands, Taiwan, Japan, Kuril Islands, Aleutian Islands, possibly Southern Alaska, Chile, Peru, Argentina, and Central America..
There may be activity occurring in the Eastern side of the United States and Canada so far. There have been several small events that happened in that part of the world in the last day. At this point, the chances of major quake activity elsewhere in parts of the world remain very high.

Tuesday, May 5, 2020

Update: 5/5/20

There has more or less been more signs of serious EQ activity in parts of the world. Earlier, some more moderate quakes took place in regions such as Japan, Central America, and Greece(an aftershock from the strong earthquake several days ago). There is still a higher chance of a big event somewhere any time now or day. However, this could end up lasting another week. Yesterday, I decided to post updates more frequently because it otherwise seems too vague.
When it goes quiet, I don't post anything for a while. I don't plan on posting in this every single day, but I have to be a little more consistent. Once I issue a strong potential for major earthquake activity worldwide, I have to keep up with it because it could end up dipping back down again to where there is little going on for a while. It is frequently changing. At this point, more moderate to potentially strong earthquakes may be imminent in parts of the world any moment now.
There may still be a lot going on this week, but it could also end up being mostly quiet for another week at the same time. Closer to home, there is still a high chance of more activity increasing in Southern and Central California anytime or day now. The Tehachapi and Searles Valley areas may have more mag. 3+ quakes on the rise anytime now or later on this week so far. There still may be more mag. 3-4+ in the region South of the Tehachapi Mountains in Southern California any time, day, or within the next week.

https://twitter.com/SeismicFox1

Monday, May 4, 2020

Update: 5/4/20

I am considering being a little more consistent by making updates keeping up with whatever is happening. At this point, it may go quiet out there at first and then a large earthquake or two may occur somewhere within the next 2 or 3 days. However, I don't want to be playing Russian roulette here. Something may still go off somewhere any minute now. There is even a high potential for a very large earthquake to strike somewhere in the world any day now. It could happen today, tomorrow, or perhaps this weekend. I'm still watching the Timor Trench region as well as Guam and the Ryukyu Islands. There is also a chance the Eastern Mediterranean Sea could have a bigger earthquake.
There has most recently been some more significant earthquake activity taking place over in Japan. As of right now, there might not be that much going on out there yet. Again, something could very well still happen today, but at this point, it could be another day or two until the next magnitude 6 or greater event.

EQ WATCH: May 4 - 12, 2020

Yesterday, I made a post, but was somewhat doubtful that much was going on in the world just yet, so I deleted it. I have hemmed and hawed over whether I should declare a major earthquake watch for the world yet or not. I have seen it go several months without any quakes of magnitude 7 or larger anywhere in the world. This morning I decided to make a post. There is a very high chance of major earthquake activity somewhere in the world anytime now or within the next week so far. However, I will not be surprised if it doesn't happen within that time frame.
There is still an extremely high chance a powerful earthquake might hit somewhere in the world today, tomorrow, or later this week. Regions to look out for include: Japan(Honshu, Hokkaido, Ryukyu Islands, Izu Islands), Guam(Northern Mariana Islands), Indonesia(Talaud Islands, Halmahera, Tanimbar Islands, Sulawesi, or Java), East Timor, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Philippines, Andaman Islands, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Central America, and possibly Southern Alaska(the Kodiak Island region or the Aleutian Islands)..
So far, it looks like the activity in Southern California has decreased this morning. It may still shoot back up later today, but right now, there is not much going on anymore. I will have to wait and see. The activity may increase again today with more magnitude 3s and 4s or it may become very quiet again for now.

https://twitter.com/SeismicFox1

Saturday, May 2, 2020

Update: May 2, 2020

The chances of magnitude 7+ worldwide are extremely high now. A powerful earthquake is due to strike somewhere at any time or within the next 5 days so far. A magnitude 6.6 already occurred in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, South of the Island of Crete about several hours ago. There is the potential something larger could take place there. However, there are other regions that may be next in having a big quake anytime or day now. The areas that I have been most concerned about include: Central America(Chiapas-Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras), Ecuador, Peru, Chile, New Zealand, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, Indonesia(Talaud Islands, Tanimbar Islands, Sulawesi, Java, Sumatra), Andaman Islands, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Iran, Northern Mariana Islands, Ryukyu Islands-Japan, Honshu or Hokkaido-Japan, Aleutian Islands(Alaska, U.S.A.)..
While it may be searing right now, it could end up going quiet again for a little while at the same time. There is also more activity heating up here in Southern California again so far. There is a strong chance for magnitude 3-4+ anytime now. There is also still a potential something more significant may be around the corner. There may also be more taking place in Central and Eastern California as well. I will not be surprised if it goes quiet again for now, but it has been heating up again since late last night.
