Outlook: March 2022

I figured that I will make these kind of posts at the end of every month from now on. So far, there are still signs of it being active somewhere in terms of earthquake activity. This might be a more active month. A particularly strong earthquake could occur somewhere within the next 2-3 weeks. The next set of strong earthquake activity worldwide may likely be between March 3 and 11th at this point. Nothing is ever set in stone. It can always change. Regions that may be active any time now include the Hokkaido, Japan region, the Kuril Islands, the Southwestern Pacific, Indonesia, and the Ryukyu Islands region.

Update: 2/24/22

Yesterday was fairly quiet throughout the world in terms of seismic activity. However, it did not remain quiet everywhere for very long. A magnitude 6.1 struck Sumatra killing at least 7 people and dozens of others were injured. Tremors were also felt in neighboring Malaysia and Singapore according to officials. It still may not be over yet. There is still a very high potential for more significant earthquake activity in the world any time or day now. A mag. 7 or greater somewhere within the next several days cannot be ruled out. At the same time, it could eventually fall quiet for now until next month. At this point, the next surge of significant activity with the potential for mag. 7+ somewhere could land around from March 3-11. That is, if this round of significant activity is over by this weekend or early next week. Nothing is ever set in stone, so there is no guarantee of when the next rise in global activity will be.

Alert Modes

I know that I recently made a post about a system I have for the different levels of world earthquake activity. I apologize for altering them so frequently. I just have been attempting to make each of them more distinguishable and to make it clear as to what is or may be going on in terms of global seismic activity. I went a little overboard on the rosy hues.

I made a significant change to the character(nine-tailed fox - based on Japanese yokai) representing the highest level of global earthquake activity. It was pale pink with orange, but I decided to give it a more classic white spirit appearance. It represents the highest possible level and power. All that pink may seem childish to some people and therefor may not be taken as seriously. I need to balance my social media with both nice, flowery images and serious things going on. I don't want to make it look like I'm ignoring the situation going on over in Europe or other important real-life issues outside of seismic hazards. When there is little seismic activity going on in the world, the avatar I use has a simple green background and whenever it shifts to more moderate levels of activity, it acquires an orange background.

I switch it to alert mode whenever there is or may be mag. 6 or greater going on in the world. Typically, it goes to level 4(bright orange fox with 6 tails; 2 exclamation points) whenever a major earthquake(mag. 6.9-7+) takes place somewhere. When a mag. 7.9-8+ has taken place, you will see the white nine-tailed fox as my profile picture. During certain hours, you will see the default red 3-tailed fox sleeping as my profile picture. That means I have gone to bed and am therefor unavailable. I have changed my alert mode avatars so many times especially over the past year. I have been consistently trying to improve on keeping the world informed and prepared.

It is also somewhat risky since I'm not a scientist and this would be an unorthodox way of tracking earthquake activity and detecting potential events beforehand. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused anyone. I have a thing for the color red. I'm very sensitive to that hue, but not everyone can see red that strongly. It may be hard for some people to tell apart certain shades of red and bright pink and orange. Originally, my character was a red fox with one tail which then turned gold or whitish with orange as the energy levels went up. Before I moved here to Tennessee, this system was also based on local activity in Southern California. I adopted the multiple tailed fox because I always was fascinated with Japanese culture and mythology. Again, I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Update: 2/22/22

So far, 2 strong earthquakes have occurred in the world since the last blog post which was yesterday. A magnitude 6.3 was recorded South of the Balleny Islands yesterday and overnight a magnitude 6.0 struck northwestern Juyjuy, Argentina. The first quake was undersea in a remote part of the world and the second one was too deep to cause much damage. So far, there is still a lot of energy out there. There may be more serious activity going on this week, but at the same time, it could end up dropping again.

Extended EQ Watch: 2/21-26/22

There are loads of earthquake activity taking place throughout the world. The threat level for magnitude 6 or greater somewhere is currently high. I decided to extend the watch through this week. It could also end up falling quiet again at the same time, but so far, there is a lot going on. Regions that may be active now include: Indonesia(Flores Sea region), Philippines(Mindanao and/or Luzon), Micronesia(State of Yap), Guam or the Northern Mariana Islands, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Fiji, New Zealand, Japan, Kuril Islands, Aleutian Islands(Alaska, USA), Alaska.. The Western Ring of Fire has been especially active so far. There have been a number of earthquakes throughout Japan over the last day. There have been 7 noticeable ones along the island nation over the past week - The biggest being a mag. 5.1 off the Miyagi Prefecture on Friday. More small earthquakes have also been popping up across the U.S. over this past week including Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, and Tennessee. A magnitude 2.4 occurred near Knoxville this morning. There could also be some more seismic activity in the West including California and Nevada. Again, it is heated out there so far. There is once again, a very high potential for mag. 6 or greater somewhere in the world. There could even potentially be a mag. 7+ somewhere this week.

Update: 2/17/22

Yesterday, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck South of the Fiji Islands. There was no tsunami threat and there have been no other problems reported from the earthquake. It was extremely deep like many earthquakes are in that region. Unfortunately, there were 2 deaths reported in Guatemala from the previous mag. 6.2 which also triggered landslides. There could still be more significant activity going on somewhere. It might not be over yet. At the same time, that mag. 6.8 may have been it in terms of a particularly strong earthquake. It was below magnitude 7, but there is not always a mag. 7 due somewhere every month.

Update: 2/16/22

Earlier, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Guatemala. It was said to have caused some damage, but thankfully no injuries or deaths have been reported so far. There may still be a lot more going on out there in the world any tiem or day now. Regions that could be active may include: Japan, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Iran, Aleutian Islands, Vanuatu, Tonga, and/or Central America.. There is also a chance that could be it for now, but at the same time, it may be very active somewhere out there any time or day now this week. There may still be nothing going on in the Central/Eastern U.S. right now, but I'm also not missing out on anything going on back in Southern California. There have been 10 small earthquakes reported on the Eastern half of the country this past week. It almost never goes more than a week without one small quake in Western or Eastern TN or surrounding areas. It has been 3 days. Also, these earthquakes are not always recorded right away. There may be more going on anytime now this week or next week.

EQ Watch: 2/15-23/22

I canceled those last two posts as it has been lagging quite a bit lately. It is not like it has not been acting up anywhere at all this past week. There have been a few quakes out there in the mid to upper magnitude 5 range and it was showing signs of becoming more violent out there somewhere. As for right now, there may be nothing going on. It may or may not become more active today. Things can always change on a dime. There may be more mag. 6+ on the rise within the week ahead, including the possibility of a mag. 7 or greater somewhere. At the same time, it could become quiet for now. There can be periods of little significant activity anywhere for a while. I recall in 2017 as well as 2018 where there were long periods of little to no significant activity anywhere in the world. However, I'm not implying that will probably be the case now. It could become active later today, tomorrow, or by this weekend. It seems sketchy at this point. Areas around the world that could be potential candidates for the next set of significant activity would include: the Eastern Caribbean region, Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands region, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia(Molucca Sea, Banda Sea, Flores Sea, or Sumatra), Philippines(Batan Islands region or Mindanao), Taiwan, Ryukyu Islands region(Japan), possibly Japan proper, Guam or the Northern Mariana Islands.. Meanwhile, some more seismic activity is occurring across parts of the southwestern U.S. again. There could be more going on in the Central and Eastern U.S. this week. There could also be more mag. 4+ going on in Alaska this week as well.

Update: 2/3/22

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck northern Peru near the Ecuador border region on Thursday morning. The quake occurred shortly before 11 a.m. and was centered about 51 km(32 miles) northwest of Barranca and 177 km(110 miles) north of Rioja, according to the USGS. Whether it resulted in any significant injuries or damage was not immediately clear. The earthquake was at a depth of 99.7 km(62 miles). It might still be active out there. This could extend into next week or this may be a particularly active window. Other places that could potentially be active would include: Indonesia(Banda and Flores Sea region), East Timor, Philippines(Batan and Babuyan Islands region), Kermadec Islands region, Western Turkey/Eastern Mediterranean Sea region, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Aleutian Islands..

Update: 2/1/22

There have been a lot of earthquakes around the world, but they were all magnitude 4.somethings. There has been a mag. 5+ in the Kermadec Islands region today. At this point, there could be a particularly large event coming up somewhere. It could be any day now or within a couple of weeks. It feels like there may likely be a magnitude 7+ somewhere in the world within the next week or two. It could even happen today. It is uncertain. It may also end up becoming very quiet before it becomes very active. Regions that may need to be watched may include: the Philippines, Indonesia, the Southwestern Pacific Ocean, Central America, possibly Japan, the Kuril Islands, the Aleutian Islands.. When I name certain areas, that does not necessarily mean a big earthquake is imminent there. I mainly scope over the regions that have been more active lately. There is also the possibility of something going on closer by, in the Central or Eastern U.S. I don't necessarily imply there might be something strong going on here. More noticeable activity on this side of the country any time or day now is possible. There was a mag. 4.5 in Oklahoma yesterday.
