EQ Watch: 6/1-6/22

So far, the potential for more strong earthquake activity in the world is increasing again. It was extremely quiet yesterday, but it is showing signs of growing more active again this week. The regions that may be active include: Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Vanuatu region, Fiji, Central America, Chile, Peru, Argentina, the Aleutian Islands, Turkey... It may or may not act up much today, but there might be more significant activity going on somewhere in the world this week so far. There has also been some activity taking place in the New Madrid Seismic Zone. A small cluster of quakes leading up to a magnitude 3.1 struck western Tennessee last night through early this morning. There were six small earthquakes in a course of 8 hours.

Longterm Forecast: June 2022

So far, the end of May could be going out quietly. There has already been a recent spike in activity including a magnitude 7+ this past week. Although another strong earthquake before the month ends is possible, it might not be that active for now. The next surge in significant activity might occur around June 5th. It could be sooner or the first week might be relatively quiet. There could be more going on in the Central and Eastern U.S. this month. There has been some more seismic activity in Oklahoma as well as Eastern Tennessee and the Appalachians. There may be more activity going on in the Western United States and Alaska this month as well so far. If the first week of June isn't going to be active, then there could likely be a lot of significant activity going on from the 11th-17th. As of right now, the overall global activity has come to a rest. However, there is always a chance that can suddenly change.

Report: 5/21/22

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck the Luzon region of the Philippines earlier. So far, there have not been any news reports of damage or injuries. The quake was 129 kilometres deep. It did not appear to cause violent shaking in the areas near the epicenter. The epicenter of said earthquake may have been on land, but it had a relatively deep focal depth. All may not be quiet out there now. There is still a high potential for more strong earthquake activity in the world somewhere any time now.

A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck the Macquarie Island region just over an hour ago. There has been no tsunami warning issued following the quake. It struck at a depth of around 10 km(6.2 miles). EQ Watch: 5/17-23/22

More significant earthquake activity may be on the rise again in the world so far. There has been increasing levels of moderate earthquake activity all day. There is a very high potential now for magnitude 6 or greater this week so far. There could even be a major earthquake somewhere. Regions that are or may be active now include: Japan(off the coast of eastern Honshu, Hokkaido, and the Ryukyu Islands), Indonesia, East Timor, New Guinea, Iran, and the Philippines(Luzon).. Meanwhile, there has been some more seismic activity across the Central and Eastern U.S. over the last day or two. Some more seismic activity has also heated up in the West including California and Washington. At this point, there is a high chance of more serious earthquake activity going on in the world somewhere any time now within the next several days.

Second Report: 5/9/22

Another magnitude 6.3 earthquake has just occurred out there. It was in the Bismarck Sea off the coast of Papua New Guinea. There may still be much more to come this week so far. There could even be a magnitude 7 or bigger imminent somewhere out there. Regions to watch out for might include Papua New Guinea, Taiwan, Philippines, Greece, Tonga, New Caledonia, Indonesia, and the Andaman Islands region. There is also some more seismic activity occurring across the United States - more activity could be heating up in parts of the west. There could also be more going on in the Central U.S. as well. It is also interesting with the activity that has been going on in South Carolina lately.

Report: 5/9/22

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck off the coast of Taiwan just hours ago. Buildings shook briefly in Taipei, but there were no reports of damage. The quake had a depth of 27.5 km(17.1 miles) with its epicenter 89.5 km(55.6 miles) off Taiwan's east coast. It was located roughly between the coast of Hualien county and the southern Japanese island of Yonaguni. The quake could be felt across Taiwan. Taiwan lies near the junction of two tectonic plates, so it is prone to earthquakes. There continues to be high levels of activity in the world. There could even be a larger earthquake any day now somewhere. Other potential candidates for the next strong earthquake would include: the Andaman Islands region, East Timor, the Molucca Sea region, Japan, Southern Greece, Eastern Turkey, New Caledonia region, Tonga.. Meanwhile, a magnitude 3.3 earthquake struck South Carolina overnight. It was centered near the town of Elgin at around 1:30 a.m.(EDT). EQ Watch: 5/4-12/22

I'm going to go ahead and issue a world earthquake watch now. It is beginning to act up out there. It has been a relatively quiet start this month, but it just now may be finally becoming significantly active out there. There could even be something particularly serious somewhere out there. At this point, there is a very high chance of a magnitude 6 or greater in the world any time now within the week ahead. Regions that may be active would include: the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Andaman Islands region, Japan, the Mediterranean Sea region(Greece or Western Turkey, possibly Italy), Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Tonga, Kermadec Islands, Fiji, Chile.. It was still looking very quiet all day earlier today, but it just now might be growing increasingly active again out there.

Longterm Forecast: May 2022

There was a brief bump in activity, but there has not been anything else going on at all lately. I regretted deleting that post because it does look like May is indeed starting out quiet so far. It does not look like it is growing any more active today either so far. At the same time, it can still change in an instant. At this point, it looks like it will become more significantly active out there closer to the middle of the month. It could be as soon as this weekend. At this point, the global earthquake activity might peak anywhere from the 11th to the 16th. There is still a potential for something significant to happen somewhere any day now. It could also become heavily active towards the end of the month. A particularly large earthquake could strike somewhere within the next 2 weeks at this point. It still feels unstable. A major earthquake could even happen tomorrow. It can even change and suddenly become active within a few hours. At the same time, it might be staying quiet today. The Eastern Mediterranean - Greece, Western Turkey, and maybe even Italy are areas that could be on the verge of becoming active. There has been more activity occurring over there lately. I would not rule that region out as a candidate for the next large earthquake out there. After all, there was a significant earthquake in the neighboring Bosnia fairly recently.
