A magnitude 7.2 has struck southern Peru. The quake occurred at 7:02 a.m. and was centered 13. kilometres(8 miles) west-northwest of Azangaro, but it was fairly deep - 217.8 kilometres(135.3 miles) beneath the surface. The earthquake caused some buildings to sway in La Paz, the capital of the neighboring Bolivia, as well as in Peruvian cities such as Arequipa, Tacna, and Cusco, but there were no reports of damage or victims.
