Update: 1/29/22

So far, it is heated out there. A magnitude 6.5 struck the Kermadec Islands region just over 12 hours ago. There are heightened levels of activity throughout parts of the world. Several earthquakes ranging from magnitude 4.3 to 4.8 have struck Japan over the last day. They were all off the coast of northeastern Honshu and southwest of Hokkaido. I'm making Japan one of my bases now. I have not been there before yet, but I have plans on getting over there in the not too distant future. There may also be more seismic activity increasing across parts of the U.S. including California and Nevada and also potentially the Central and Eastern U.S. There is still a very high potential for more strong earthquake activity in the world. Other regions to watch would include: Indonesia, parts of Central Asia(including Western China), Iran, the Kuril Islands region, the Aleutian Islands, the Southwestern Pacific Ocean, and/or possibly the Caribbean region(off the coast of Venezuela, Haiti) and/or Central America.

EQ Watch: 1/28-2/6/22

There is already some significant activity going on in the world. There is a very high potential for more serious activity within the week ahead. It may or may not be particularly active this weekend, but there is likely to be more significant activity within the next week. There may even be a magnitude 7 or greater somewhere out there. Regions to watch out for may include: Central America(a mag. 6.1 just struck off the southwest coast of Panama this morning), Southwestern Pacific Ocean(Tonga, Vanuatu, Kermadec Islands, Fiji region), Papua New Guinea, Indonesia(Molucca Sea region, Sulawesi, Java, Banda Sea region), potentially Japan, possibly Central Asia(Western China, Myanmar, the Himalayas or Hindu Kush region), Iran, Turkey/Eastern Mediterranean Sea region, Aleutian Islands.. Note that when listing these places, that does not necessarily mean a particularly large event is imminent or that all these areas are going to act up at once. These are just potential candidates for the next set of significant activity. There has also been more seismic activity occurring across parts of the Central and Eastern U.S. There may also be some more seismic activity flaring up in California and Nevada.

Update: 1/22/22

A couple of more strong earthquakes have occurred over the past 12 hours. A magnitude 6.0 occurred south of the Philippines and a magnitude 6.2 struck Alaska's Aleutian Islands late last night. Yesterday's earthquake that struck southwestern Japan injured 13 people. Two of them who were in their 80s were seriously hurt. Multiple reports of damage to buildings, water pipes, and roads have been confirmed. No abnormalities were reported at the Ikata nuclear power plant, operated by Shikoku Electric Power, or the Sendai plant operated by Kyushu Electric Power in Southern Japan, the Nuclear Regulation Authority said. "In the past, 10% to 20% of strong earthquakes were followed by a quake of the same level, so be aware of another quake of up to 5+ intensity scale in regions that experienced large jolts, for around a week." the JMA said in a statement. It is still heated out there, so there still is a high potential for more significant EQ activity in the world so far.

EQ Watch: 1/21-27/22

I stated in the previous post that there is still a chance for a rogue mag. 6+ EQ somewhere in the world before the end of this month. There was a magnitude 6.3 off the coast of Kyushu, Japan. However, that may not be the last mag. 6+ for this month. As much as it could become overall quiet, there could be more strong earthquake activity going on somewhere out there. There could be more going on in Japan(Southern region) or there could also be another strong earthquake somewhere else within the next 5-6 days. Other regions to watch may include: New Zealand(Kermadec Islands), the Philippines(Mindanao), Indonesia(Banda Sea region), Alaska(USA), Iran, Kuril Islands.. Again, it could also become quiet for now and I might end up deleting this post. There may not be a big surge in activity until at least the end of this month or next month. There is a high chance for another significant earthquake or two in the world within the next 5-6 days so far. There has also been some more seismic activity occurring in the Central and Eastern U.S.

Outlook: 1/20/22

So far, it seems like everything is finally settling down out there for now. January has been an active month. It may remain relatively quiet in the world within the week ahead with a couple of moderate to potentially significant EQs along the way - mid to upper magnitude 5 range although a mag. 6+ is not out of the question. So far, the next surge in significant global activity or next strong earthquake may be around the end of this month or early next month. Again, that can always change on a time. There have been multiple occasions where I made this type of post one morning and then issued a new global EQ watch the next day or two. Although these outlook forecast posts are not necessarily suggesting it is going to be an uneventful week out there in terms of seismic activity, these often are made in the mid or latter part of the month just after a rise in significant activity. However, it may end up remaining overall quiet in the world this weekend and even next week at this point. Again, that can still change. A rogue mag. 6+ somewhere in the world later today or this weekend cannot be ruled out. There is always a possibility for some intraplate seismic activity going on somewhere. The other night, a mag. 2.3 occurred East of McMinnville, TN, about 30 miles east of my area. There could be more going on on this side of the country within the coming days. I will be watching it all. Another tiny earthquake was recorded in South Carolina late yesterday. Some more small earthquakes were recorded in the Yellowstone area over the past 24 hours. There could also be some more seismic activity flaring up in other parts of the Western U.S. as well as Alaska any time or day now.

Update: 1/14/22

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake shook parts of Indonesia's main island of Java on Friday, damaging buildings and houses and sending people into the streets. There were no immediate reports of casualties. Officials also said that there was no danger of a tsunami. The U.S. Geological Survey said that the quake was located in the Indian Ocean about 88 kilometers(54 miles) southwest of Labuan, a coastal town in the Banten Province. It was centered at a depth of 37 km(23 miles). High rises in the capital Jakarta swayed for over 10 seconds and some ordered evacuations. Earthquakes occur rather frequently across this archipelago nation, but it is uncommon for them to be felt in Jakarta.

Update: 1/11/21

There have been a bunch of significant earthquakes over the past day. A magnitude 6.8 struck the Aleutian Islands of Alaska early this morning. It has not posed a tsunami threat to Hawaii. There have been some strong aftershocks. Yesterday, a magnitude 6.6 struck the Cyprus region of Greece, but there were no reports of damage. There could be more activity continuing in parts of the world. There have also been some new small quakes in parts of the Southeastern U.S. A new small EQ was recorded in the New Madrid Seismic Zone area near Ridgely, Tennessee and a few more micro quakes in South Carolina.

Update: 1/7/22

More strong and potentially dangerous earthquake activity has continued in the world. A magnitude 6.6 struck China's Qinghai Province today. It struck at about 1:45 a.m. local time and was shallow with a depth of 10 kilometers(6 miles). A magnitude 5.1 aftershock followed about 25 minutes later, according to the United States Geological Survey. The US agency warned that "the population in this region resides in structures that are highly vulnerable to earthquake shaking, though some resistant structures exist." However, the USGS said there would be a low likelihood of casualties due to the region being sparsely populated.

Update: 1/6/22

A magnitude 6.2 shook Nicaragua this morning, causing people to panic and flee into the streets. However, there were no initial reports of damage. It was felt strongly in the capital of Managua. It was also felt to the North in El Salvador. By the way, running out of the building during an earthquake is not a good idea. You would more likely get injured or killed by debris falling from the outside of a building or house. Any running or moving around is not what you should do while the ground is shaking violently. Stay where you are and take cover underneath a table, desk, or even a chair to protect yourself from falling objects and debris.

Update: 1/4/22

A magnitude 6.0 just struck the Banda Sea region about an hour ago. There have been a couple of significant earthquakes in the world over the past 24 hours - A magnitude 6.0 in the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and a mag. 5.8 in the Vanuatu region. It may still be hot out there, so be cautious especially if you live in an earthquake-prone region. Other potentially active regions would include: the Andaman Islands region, the Kuril Islands, Taiwan, Ryukyu Islands, Tonga region..

EQ Watch: 1/3-10/22

There has already been some more significant earthquake activity going on out there in the world. Yesterday evening, I warned that it was probably about to become active again in the world. There has already been a magnitude 6.2 off the eastern coast of Taiwan. There were no immediate reports of damage. Before that one, there was a magnitude 6.0 in the Vanuatu region. There may be a very high potential for more strong earthquake activity in the world within the week ahead. Regions to watch out for may include: Indonesia(Banda and Molucca Sea regions, Sulawesi), Papua New Guinea, the Northern Mariana Islands region, Southwestern China, Myanmar(Burma), Laos, Andaman Islands region, Fiji, Tonga, Peru, Central America, Aleutian Islands, Kuril Islands.. There could also be some more activity taking place in Japan. There is also a lot of activity taking place across the United States. There is a potential for more going on in the Eastern U.S. which includes parts of Appalachia. There has been some more small earthquakes taking place in South Carolina. There were also some more quakes in Western Texas as well. Again, there is a high chance for more mag. 6 or greater in the world any time or day now so far. I will be watching and will keep the world updated.

New Year's Day Outlook

So far, the new year is starting out quiet in terms of global earthquake activity. There had already been a lot of significant earthquake activity in the world over the past couple of weeks. It might be finally remaining generally quiet for now. At the same time, there is a chance that can change on a dime. I will be ready to jump right on it if something changes where there could potentially be something serious going on somewhere in the world. There may possibly be some seismic activity occurring in parts of the Central and/or Eastern United States anytime now this week. There has been some signs of some more activity going on in certain areas. When it comes to worldwide earthquake activity, it is staying generally quiet for now. Again, that still might change where something big could suddenly strike somewhere. It is even possible I could end up making a new post today or tomorrow. It feels a bit unstable. However, it also may not be very much and may not have to execute a watch this week. I'm still being very aware. As much as it may remain quiet for now, it could suddenly start getting busy again.
