Update: 1/14/22

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake shook parts of Indonesia's main island of Java on Friday, damaging buildings and houses and sending people into the streets. There were no immediate reports of casualties. Officials also said that there was no danger of a tsunami. The U.S. Geological Survey said that the quake was located in the Indian Ocean about 88 kilometers(54 miles) southwest of Labuan, a coastal town in the Banten Province. It was centered at a depth of 37 km(23 miles). High rises in the capital Jakarta swayed for over 10 seconds and some ordered evacuations. Earthquakes occur rather frequently across this archipelago nation, but it is uncommon for them to be felt in Jakarta.
