Update: 9/22/21

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck off the coast of Nicaragua this morning at 4:57 a.m. It had a moderate focal depth of 20 miles and was located 48.5 miles off the coast of the beach resort of Jiquilillo. No tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of damage. Meanwhile in Australia, buildings in Melbourne were damaged from the magnitude 5.9 tremor, but there were no immediate reports of serious injuries or deaths. Hospitals were forced to evacuate. Earthquakes of that size in that region are rare. The potential threat for more significant activity out there in the world may not be over yet. That may also be it for now but it still feels tense out there right now at this point.
