Report: 11/21/22

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck south of Jakarta in Java, Indonesia. It was a moderate earthquake, but unfortunately, that part of Indonesia is apparently more vulnerable to earthquakes. At least 162 deaths have been reported. It was not a very large quake, but it caused significant damage around the area. Some 326 people have been injured. The quake hit the Cianjur region in West Java on Monday at a depth of 10 kilometers. The earthquake has also displaced 13,782 people. At least 2,345 homes have been damaged. Officials are expecting the death toll to rise. This event was also troubling as it was rather devastating for its size. If an earthquake lower than magnitude 6 can cause that much devastation, I can't imagine what a magnitude 7 or bigger would do to those most vulnerable places. There is still a very high potential for more serious earthquake activity in the world. A particularly large earthquake somewhere any time or day now is not out of the question(the biggest earthquake of the year).
