Update: 1/11/23

Numerous aftershocks are occurring in both recently impacted places. A significant aftershock measuring magnitude 5.8 struck the region of Vanuatu. Meanwhile, many aftershocks are occurring in the Banda Sea region. At this point, there may not be a whole lot going on now elsewhere, but there is still a high potential for more significant activity this week. Meanwhile, some more small earthquakes have occurred in the Central and Eastern U.S. this week. There is a chance a more significant or moderate event could occur in this part of the country. It is rare, but that does not mean a more widely felt event is impossible. Over the past year, there has been an increase in seismic activity, including where the New Madrid Seismic Zone is.
