REPORT: 2.6.23

1,300 people are confirmed dead in both Turkey and Syria. A magnitude 7.5 aftershock struck a short while ago, making the situation even worse. The magnitude 7.8 mainshock was Turkey's largest disaster since 1939, according to president Tayyip Erdogan. Residents joined rescuers to search for survivors in freezing cold temperatures. The death toll is expected to climb. Last night when this happened(Central U.S. time zone), I immediately knew this was going to be a mass casualty event. This was not a run-of-the-mill surge in significant activity in parts of the world. I was watching out for a particularly large event. Even though there were 3 mag. 7+ earthquakes last month, something really large would still be due any time now. It wasn't a magnitude 8+, but it was definitely historical. An ancient castle was also badly damaged.
