A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck China's Sichuan Province about 5 hours ago. Unfortunately, there have been 4 casualties and 14 others were injured. The quake's epicenter was near Ya'an City. It struck at a depth of 17 km, at about 5 p.m. local time, and tremors were felt across Sichuan. It was first registered as a magnitude 6.1, but the USGS downgraded it to 5.9. The earthquake reportedly triggered a landslide that damaged residencies and a cement factory. Some 4,500 search and rescue workers were sent to help. Sichuan is no stranger to significant earthquakes. On May 12, 2008, one of the deadliest earthquakes in history occurred there, killing thousands. As far as more significant activity elsewhere is concerned, there is not a whole lot going on elsewhere right now. However, it may become more active this week or by this weekend.
