This is bad news. A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck southeastern Afghanistan a short while ago and about 1,000 deaths have been reported. The earthquake was initially a magnitude 6.0. It occurred at 1:24 a.m. local time. It happened close to the border with Pakistan. It still might be active out there. Other areas of concern include the Ryukyu Islands region and Southern Iran and Central America.
