Report: 6.30.23
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4 struck the Java region of Indonesia. The USGS downgraded it to magnitude 5.8. The quake damaged several buildings. So far, there have been no immediate reports of casualties. The quake was centered 84 km(52 miles) southwest of Bambanglipuro, a village in Bantul regency of Yogyakarta province, at a depth of 86 km(53 miles). Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency said the undersea earthquake damaged at least 15 houses, two schools, a health facility and a government office. Television reports showed residents in Yogyakarta and its neighboring provinces of central and eastern Java panicking as houses and buildings swayed for several seconds. Some places ordered evacuations sending people fleeing into the streets. There was no danger of a tsunami, but services warned of aftershocks. As for the rest of the world, there is not a whole lot going on right now, but there is a high potential for more to come. Other places that could become active anytime now might include: Myanmar, Japan(Hokkaido region, Bonin Islands), Kuril Islands, Aleutian Islands, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Chile, South Sandwich Islands region, and the Philippines... Meanwhile some more seismic activity has flared up in California. A magnitude 3.4 struck near Tehachapi overnight. There is also more activity occurring in Southern Alaska and the peninsula.

EQ Watch: 6.30-7.5.23
I'm now going to put a new watch out for worldwide seismic activity. There is a high potential for a large earthquake anytime within the next 5-6 days at this point. There is a decent chance of an earthquake in the upper magnitude 6 to 7 range somewhere any time or day now so far. Places I'm watching more include: Japan(off the coast of Fukushima to Hokkaido, Bonin Islands), Kuril Islands, Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan border region, the Kermadec Islands region, Turkey, Iran, Mediterranean region, Chile, Argentina, Peru... There may not be a whole lot going on immediately, but there is a high likelihood of a magnitude 6 or greater somewhere out there within the next few days at this point. Meanwhile, there may be an uptick in activity in California. There could be a magnitude 4 in southern California or central to northern California within the coming days. There might also be more noticeable activity up in Alaska as well.

Outlook: July 2023
June was overall quiet compared to the previous months this year. There was an outbreak in strong earthquake activity for one week which was the middle part of the month. So far, it looks like it is finishing up relatively quiet with a few bumps. However, it can always change very swiftly. I could end up making a new post tomorrow or perhaps later today. I just have not been feeling anything tugging my strings much at all lately. I briefly felt something where there was a little uptick in activity, but there was nothing more than a magnitude 6.0 aftershock in the most recently active area. I feel like I should try making these watches shorter and only keep the world posted as I play it by ear. I want to conserve those posts for when it becomes really active out there. People may also stop listening to me when I post that much. I also have been struggling to be a little more serious on Twitter. I sometimes get burned out from my job and am guilty of engaging in mindless scrolling where I sometimes get tempted by another tweet to share my opinion. I don't want to get into any of that. I need to stick with what I cover. So far, it looks like the next surge in activity may not be long from now. It doesn't feel like anything is happening yet other than a few moderate to significant quakes, but the next full-blown outbreak could be within a few days. However, it also may not be a long-lasting event. It could take place over a course of 2 or 3 days. At this point, it could start up from July 1-5 or 5-8. However, it could still suddenly become active before this month is over. So far, those are just aftershocks. However, a large earthquake occurring out there today or tomorrow cannot be ruled out. The regions to watch out for next may include the Philippines, Indonesia(Sumatra, Bali region, or the Banda Sea region), Japan(these are all the most active places, by the way), the Andaman Islands region, Myanmar or northern India, possibly parts of the Mediterranean region, Black and/or Caspian Sea region, Aleutian Islands or southern Alaska, Ecuador, or Peru. There also might be some moderate to possibly significant activity in California soon. There is no telling exactly where, but I am looking at Central and Northern California. However, I'm not meaning to leave out Southern California becoming more active anytime soon. It just looks like there may be more going on there soon. Over the past month, there has also been an increase in seismic activity scattered throughout parts of the eastern side of the U.S.

Update: 6.19.23
An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 struck Mexico's Gulf of California on Sunday. Mexico's civil defense office confirmed that there were no immediate reports of damage in the areas where the earthquake was felt. The quake struck at a depth of 10 km(6.21 miles). There was no threat of a tsunami. Meanwhile, it has been active elsewhere throughout the world. A magnitude 6.0 struck south of Africa. It could not have caused any harm as it was nowhere near land.

Update: 6.17.23
It continues to be active out there. So far, several other significant earthquakes have occurred in the world over the last day. Many aftershocks are taking place from the magnitude 7.2 in the Tonga region and there has been some significant activity taking place in the Kuril Islands region north of Hokkaido, Japan. There could still be more large earthquakes taking place any time now. Other potential areas of concern include central Asia, Iran, Central America, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, Northern Mariana Islands...

Report 2: 6.15.23
A magnitude 7.2 earthquake just struck near Tonga. The epicenter was located 280 km(174 miles) southwest of Tonga, at a depth of 167.4 km(104 miles), according to the USGS. The U.S. Tsunami Warning System said there was no threat of a tsunami for the U.S. west coast, British Columbia, or Alaska following the quake. There was also no tsunami threat for Australia.
Report: 6.15.23
A magnitude 6.2 earthquake occurred in the Mindoro region of the Philippines hours ago(last night in my time zone). It caused panic and prompted evacuations, but there were no reports of major damage or deaths. So far, there continues to be a potential for even more serious activity in the world. However, it has not been acting up much anywhere else at all lately. I had a feeling we were in for a quiet spell this month. At the same time, there may still be a major earthquake due somewhere any time now. The Kermadec Islands, Indonesia, the Kuril Islands, Aleutian Islands, and central Asia are other potential candidates for the next significant earthquake or two. I'm also starting to pay attention to California and the west coast again. I'm not saying something big is probably about to happen somewhere along the west coast of the United States but there may be more activity flaring up in parts of California and even the Rockies any time now this week or in the coming week so far.

New EQ Watch: 6.14-19.23
There now may be more significant activity going on again in the world any time now. A particularly large earthquake could even be imminent somewhere out there within the next several days at this point. So far, it has been showing signs of becoming more active again. Regions to watch out for may include: the Kermadec Islands region, Fiji, Tonga, Loyalty Islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia(Sulawesi, Sumatra, Banda Sea region), Japan, parts of Central Asia such as northern India, Pakistan, or western China, Kuril Islands, Kamchatka Peninsula, Aleutian Islands, Northern Mariana Islands... I'm not implying that all of these places are under the threat of a strong to major earthquake any time now. These are listed as one of the most active regions or regions that have been more active than usual lately. This could also end up being a dud where nothing big happens at all, but at the same time, it is starting to heat up so far.

Report: 6.11.23
A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.2 with an intermediate focal depth hit northern Japan's Hokkaido on Sunday evening, the Japan meteorological agency said. The epicenter of the earthquake was off the coast of the town of Urakawa, the Agency said, adding that a tsunami warning had not been issued. There continues to be a high potential for more significant earthquake activity going on out there. Other areas of the world to watch may include Indonesia(Sumatra, Sulawesi region), Turkey, the Aleutian Islands, Kuril Islands, Greece, Peru, or Chile. Japan is a very active country, so be aware of the potential for more activity in the region.

Update: 6.10.23
So far, it may not be getting much more active than this. The largest earthquake we have had out there so far was a magnitude 5.9. There was a magnitude 5.8 in the Fiji region a few hours ago. There has not been one magnitude 6 or greater this month. I had a feeling June would probably be the least active month of the year again. That is because it was so active for the last several months, I knew we were due for a break. However, a magnitude 6 or higher is still likely within the next few days. I might as well delete that last world EQ watch. I would rather save these for something major. It did not feel like it was going to get that active for a while. A candidate for the next magnitude 6 or greater would be Alaska's Aleutian Islands. Other areas to watch may include Pakistan, Iran, Greece, Peru, Indonesia, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Otherwise, the next major surge in activity may not be until next week or towards the end of the month at this point.

EQ Watch: 6.9-12.23
I put a few tweets out last night that it was about time for it to start becoming active in the world again. I mistakenly deleted them this morning. I did make a tweet earlier yesterday where I did say it felt like it was about to get active soon, so it is not all lost. So far, a magnitude 5.6 was reported in Indonesia just about an hour ago. There is a very high chance of a magnitude 6 or greater somewhere any time now. Other areas that could be under the gun include: Colombia, Central America, Peru, the South Sandwich Islands, Loyalty Islands, Kermadec Islands, Pakistan, Iran or the Caspian Sea region.. So far, there is again, a very high potential for a magnitude 6 or higher somewhere anytime now within the next several days.
