Report: 4/23/22

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Bosnia 19 hours ago killing one person and injuring several others. The quake hit 42 kilometres(26 miles) southeast of the city of Mostar at 11:07 p.m. local time. It was at a depth of 5 km(3.1 miles). The victim was a 28-yr-old woman. Her parents were injured along with her after the earthquake caused a boulder to dislodge and slam into their home. This was in the city of Stolac, which was close to Mostar. The earthquake was felt throughout the country as well as the neighboring regions of Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro. I have heard no further reports from the much larger quake that struck off the coast of Nicaragua the previous day. I'm sorry I am a little late with this report. I was busy yesterday evening and this morning where I have not gotten around to it until now. I also do not write a report right away for there is initially not enough information yet. So far today, there is not a whole lot going on out there now. However, this may be an extended EQ Watch where it may still be active somewhere out there within the week ahead.

Report: 4/21/22

 

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck off the west coast of Nicaragua overnight. There was no threat of a tsunami. It hit at 1:42 a.m. local time at a depth of 25.3 km(15.7 miles). The epicenter was about 61 km(38 miles) from the coastal region of Masachapa. There were no immediate reports of damage, but residents told a local broadcaster that strong tremors were felt in the capital of Managua. The USGS said that there was a low likelihood of casualties and damage from the tremor. However, the agency noted that there are structures in the region that are vulnerable to earthquakes.

Report: 4/20/22

 

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck the Philippines 2 hours ago. It was in the same area as the magnitude 6.1 on Monday. It was a strong aftershock. There have not been any reports of damage or serious injuries yet. There is the possibility of another large earthquake in that region. However, there could be another large earthquake hitting somewhere else in the world any time or day now. A magnitude 7 or greater somewhere cannot be ruled out. So far, it is probably still very active out there.

Update: 4/20/22

 

There are still high levels of earthquake activity in the world. A magnitude 5.9 struck southeast of the Loyalty Islands overnight(Central Daylight Time) and a mag. 5.8 struck the Balleny Islands a couple of hours ago. There is still a high potential for more strong earthquake activity going on somewhere. Other candidates would include: Central America, Chile, Argentina, Peru, New Caledonia, Tonga, Fiji, Molucca Sea region, Indonesia(Sulawesi, Java, Sumatra), and possibly the Eastern Mediterranean Sea region.. More seismic activity has occurred around parts of the United States from the Rockies to California and New Mexico. There have even been a few new small quakes pop up in the Central and Eastern U.S. There may also be more activity heating up in Alaska.

Report: 4/19/22

As I was preparing to go to bed last night, a magnitude 6.1 struck the Mindanao region of the Philippines. I still have not heard of any further information such as any reports of injuries or damage. The quake was also offshore, so that makes a difference as to it being inland, directly beneath populated areas. Just a few hours later, a magnitude 6.0 struck 108 km east of 'Ohonua, Tonga. No significant impact should be expected down there as it also was away from land and that region has experienced strong earthquakes frequently for years. From now on, I will also make some moderate earthquakes count because they can cause damage depending on where they happen. Earlier yesterday, a magnitude 5.3 struck the Ibaraki prefecture of Japan. It had a Shindo Intensity rating of around the lower 5 range. Fortunately, it did not cause any damage. Japan experiences earthquakes very frequently and much of it is up to code. This was not a large event, but it was well felt. Most of the earthquakes have happened off the coast and they are far less noticed. The one yesterday occurred about 23 miles(37.8 km) inland. I also most recently shifted some attention towards the Eastern Mediterranean region including Italy as there has been signs of more activity going on there recently. There were reports via EMSC of an earthquake near Naples when I was getting ready for bed last night. However, it must have not been anything significant because nothing came up on the USGS map.

Update: 4/17/22

So far, there has been more activity increasing again today. A magnitude 5.8 struck the Vanuatu region earlier. Yesterday, the activity decreased, but now it is higher again. There is once again, a very strong potential for magnitude 6 or greater somewhere in the world this week. Other potential candidates for the next significant earthquake would include: Indonesia(Sumatra, Nias, Sulawesi, or Java), Philippines, Ryukyu Islands(Japan), Japan, Izu Islands(Japan), Kuril Islands, Aleutian Islands(Alaska, U.S.A.), Central America, Chile, Argentina, Tonga, Fiji, Kermadec Islands, New Guinea.. Back in the U.S., there is activity going on in random parts of the country again. There has not been any reported events on the East side of the country today, but there could still be more going on. There are periods where more earthquakes start popping up in the Central and Eastern U.S. It feels like we are due to experience more noticeable activity within the coming days or weeks. There has been a cluster of small quakes in the Rocky Mountains such as Montana, Idaho, and Utah. There have also been some more earthquakes across parts of Texas over the past couple of days.

New EQ Watch: 4/15-22/22

 

There is now a high potential for more strong earthquake activity going on somewhere in the world anytime now within the next 5-7 days. So far, there are increased levels of activity out there. Regions that may be active would include: Chile, Argentina, Central America, Aleutian Islands, Japan, Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan, Western China, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, possibly Italy, Tonga, Fiji region.. There is also some more activity taking place in Southern California today. So far, it is heating up out there. The potential for mag. 6+ somewhere in the world any moment or day now is very high so far.
